Deep Tissue Massage (Sports Massage) in Tralee & Dingle, Co.Kerry
Eddie specialises in ”deep tissue massage”, also sometimes called ”sports massage”. Deep tissue massage differs from classical massage in that it also concentrates on muscles that are positioned deeper inside our bodies. It is a massage method used to relieve tension in muscles, connective tissue and fascia. Fascia is the sheath of tissue that surrounds muscles, groups of muscles and tendons etc. It binds some structures together while allowing others to glide smoothly over each other. Deep tissue massage focuses on working through the muscles layer by layer, softening and loosening each layer, breaking down adhesions (knots) and scar tissue, releasing trigger points within the muscle and stretching the fascia. It is common for clients to feel a new different type of muscle ache for a day or two after deep tissue massage. This is similar to the way a person’s muscles feel a day or two after a hard workout or training session. The therapist is working out the muscle after all. However, when this soreness lifts the muscle feels lighter and rejuvenated. Clinics are in Tralee , Monday – Saturday, early until late and in Dingle every wednesday. Phone 086-7700191 to make an appointment.

Deep Tissue Massage (Sports Massage) Advice
Eddie advises that it is not beneficial to have a deep tissue massage a day or two before a big competition. This is because the muscles are being worked out hard during the massage and this may result in decreased performance, as the muscles need time to recover. To get maximum benefit from deep tissue sports massage it is best to get it approximately a week before a big event as you wind down your training. Deep tissue work performed after a big event may also improve recovery.
Benefits of deep tissue massage:
- Increased blood flow
- Elimination of scar tissue
- Improved posture
- Improved flexibility
- Release of muscle tension
- Pain reduction
- Improved sports performance
- Increased sense of wellbeing
- Reduction in the build up of waste products from injury and trauma
